TANK GAUGING SYSTEMS FOR NAVAL AND MERCHANT VESSELS |
||
PSM
Instrumentation has used its expertise in the field of level measurement
to develop a range of tank gauging and level
monitoring systems specifically for the Marine Industry. Having worked
in this sector for over 20 years, the company has gained formal and type
approval with all major classification societies and worldwide recognition
as a specialist in providing tailored solutions to all tank gauging
applications.
Recently the company developed a highly specialised submersible differential pressure sensor for the Ministry of Defence. Following successful trials, an entire class of Royal Navy Frigates is to be equipped with the unit that measures the content of seawater displaced fuel oil tanks. Partnering this special transmitter is a PSM acquisition and display system which processes the information, based on tank tables and the grade of oil in use, to provide a volume display at repeater indicators all over the ship, each connected via a two-wire RS485 data highway. The M/S Geco Eagle, a recent ship of the year in Norway, has been fitted with more than 80 PSM series 260 level sensors. These cover all tank applications on the vessel, including draught, ballast, fresh water, oil and slops. The 10, 846t vessel is part of an extensive programme to upgrade Geco Prakla’s existing fleet. Schlumberger has now begun commercial operations with the vessel for Amerada Hess, carrying out 3D seismic operations in Brazil. PSM is also supplying more than 250 level and pressure transmitters for each of Bingo 9000-1 and 9000-2 semi-submersible oilrigs currently under construction by Friede Goldman Offshore in Pascagoula Mississippi. Once in service, it is claimed by the owners, these rigs will have the highest production capacity seen so far for this type of rig. |
